“A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.”
Steve Prefontaine

What is cross country?
Cross country is a 5k (3.125 mile) race that is run on open, rough terrain including wooded, grassy, muddy, and anything in between.

How do you win as a team?
The first 5 people on the team to cross the finish line without being disqualified score for your team. You add the top 5 places up, and the lowest score wins. Races include a 6th and 7th runner in case someone has a bad race or is not able to finish the race.

Information necessary to participate:

Physical completed by a doctor

Behavior:              You represent our team in the hallway, and we expect you to hold our reputation far above the rest of those at Meadowcreek. We have respect for ourselves and we have earned the respect of others.

Academics:           You must pass your classes and excel in most. We don’t “barely get by”

Attendance:       You must be present EVERYDAY of practice, unless you have been given permission after supplying a valid and legitimate excuse.

Work Ethic:         Give it your all. You will not be successful if you do not put in everything you have! We ask for you to leave every bit of energy on the course, and that is the expectation at practice as well. The only way to get better is to push yourself far beyond what you think you are capable of. When we ask you to catch someone in the race, we are asking that because we know you are capable of it.

Meadowcreek Runner’s Creed

  • I believe that at any time I will need to be trained and ready to run for every race to support my team mates.
  • I believe that I need enough sleep, hydration, and proper nutrition to perform my very best in practice and competitions.
  • I believe that my coaches will do everything within their power to support me in my athletic and academic endeavors.
  • I believe that regular attendance and 100% effort in each practice and meet will mean I will see results and my team will advance to its full potential.
  • I believe that consistent and honest communication with my coaches and team means that I will be a successful runner.
  • I believe it is my responsibility to full fill my commitment to my team mates.
  • I believe that participating in fundraising for my team will provide more benefits for the entire team.
  • I believe that I am important to my team mates, my coaches, and my school community because I serve as a role model through my words and actions.
