Meadowcreek’s Jason Carrera named Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week

FLOWERY BRANCH — Meadowcreek High School head football Coach Jason Carrera has been named the Atlanta Falcons Coach of the Week presented by Ford. This is Coach Carrera’s first season as head coach of Meadowcreek High School.

Coach Carrera brought three wins this season to a school that had previously won five games since 2002. In addition to working hard on the field, Coach Carrera also engages his team in the community. The football team is actively involved in the middle school football program and is currently building a youth program as well. The players will also be working closely with the Salvation Army in their local community this holiday season.

Meadowcreek finishes season on hopeful note with win over Duluth

DULUTH — Friday night’s matchup between Duluth and Meadowcreek had no playoff implications and would not change much in the Region 7-AAAAAA standings.

But it was an opportunity for one team to grab its first region win of the year and have some positive momentum going into next season. Meadowcreek used the momentum from an early lead and held on for a 24-14 win in Duluth.

“It feels incredible,” first-year Meadowcreek coach Jason Carrera said following the win. “Obviously, I am happy for our seniors, I am also happy for our sophomores, juniors and freshmen because it is the start of something we want to build at Meadowcreek.”

Meadowcreek trounces Clarkston for first winning streak in 15 years

CLARKSTON — With a solid running game and stout defense, Meadowcreek demolished Clarkston 53-14 on Friday and has its first winning streak since 2000.

“We did a great job jumping on them quick,” Mustangs head coach Jason Carrera said. “We made adjustments at halftime on defense… we came out in the second half and shut them down.”

Jason Carrera notches first win as Meadowcreek head coach

NORCROSS – The Meadowcreek Mustangs opened their home schedule in style with a 43-18 win on Friday over Rockdale, giving head coach Jason Carrera a victory in his home debut, even though the teams had to wait a little longer than expected to get started.

The initial kickoff at Meadowcreek was delayed by one hour because of lightning in the area, but the Mustang offense quickly began a productive night that gave them a lead of at least eight points for the bulk of the final three quarters.

“It feels great,” said Carrera, who earned his first win in his second game as the Mustangs’ head coach. “I want this to be the norm here. The kids deserve it.”
