Meadowcreek Mustang Men’s lacrosse

Head Coach: David Jaramillo

Asst Coach: Justin Harris

The Meadowcreek High School Men’s Lacrosse Team provides a tough and rigorous athletic experience to develop favorable habits and attitudes in student athletes to prepare them for post high school academic careers and adult life. A student who elects to participate in the Meadowcreek Men’s Lacrosse Program is voluntarily making a choice to commit to a program of excellence reflecting core values including but not limited to, leadership, sportsmanship, courage, and selflessness. Meadowcreek Lacrosse has established itself as a premiere athletic program at Meadowcreek High School obtaining and holding high standards both athletically and academically. It is a privilege to participate in the lacrosse program and this privilege is extended to all male students in grades 9-12 who meet the academic and athletic requirements for the sport. It is expected that all athletes will meet better than minimum standards of conduct in both athletics and academics and follow all team rules in accordance with GCPS, GHSA, and Meadowcreek High School.

Make every day count

*Whether at practice or on game day; continuous instruction needs to be prevalent

*Have a plan, make practices/ pre-games beneficial and quality uses of time

Understand your athlete

*Know that every player’s knowledge of the game and ability is at a different level

*Be aware of an athlete’s strength’s in order to improve upon their weaknesses

State corrections in the positive

*Say “do this” not “don’t do that”

*Always offer adjustments and suggestions not just criticism alone

Treat mistakes as learning opportunities

*Learning takes place with close observation and direct instruction

*Stop athletes immediately, in practice or games to give individual support/ strategies

Always have a goal to accomplish

*Set expectations, rules and guidelines for the team, coaches, and parents

*Think toward the future; make athletes aware of their full potential/ participation

Never forget the term, “Student/athlete”

*Be punctual; End practices/ games on time to allow athletes to complete their studies

*Remember they are kids not professionals; Make practices/ games fun

Gather parent and community support

*Make sure parents understand when their kid signs up to play………so do they

*Get businesses/ community members to buy into the program; develop fund-raisers

Strive to maximize potential in every player

*Understand that each athlete learns differently; recognize then relate instruction

*Give individual attention to players; let them know they can have questions/ concerns

*Create opportunities to get every player involved in game experiences

Game schedule will be finished by: August

Georgia US Lacrosse:

Lacrosse is a Spring sport that lasts from January through May. Tryouts will be conducted in late January and potential players should arrive in excellent shape with a basic knowledge of the skill sets needed to play the sport. Meadowcreek Lacrosse prides itself on having high standards of fitness and potential players should concentrate on running up to five miles, lifting weights and participating in Crossfit/Military style fitness routines as well as having excellent agility/sprint skills. Players need to have a current 2016-17 physical/insurance on file and be academically eligible to participate in sports as outlined by GHSA and Meadowcreek High School.
