Meadowcreek announced a change in its athletic director Monday morning, selecting current assistant principal LaShawn Smith for the position.
Smith replaces outgoing AD Michael House, who will remain at the high school as a teacher. House, who became Meadowcreek’s AD and head girls basketball coach prior to the 2014-15 school year, had overseen a wave of new head coach hires in the Mustangs’ athletic department recently.
“It’s a transition (to a new AD),” Meadowcreek assistant principal Stefan Harris said. “It was just time for a change. (House) is still a teacher here at Meadowcreek High School and we wish him well in the future.”
Smith was introduced as the Mustangs’ new AD at a coaches meeting Tuesday at 6:15 a.m. He’s in his fourth year at Meadowcreek, the first two as community school director before transitioning to an assistant principal who supervised the international school of business. He originally worked in business before going into education in 2002.
